About the Course:
The Tester Recertification features classroom and hands-on instruction during the morning with hands-on practice and testing in the afternoon.
The Exam includes written and practical examinations administered beginning at 2:00 PM. The written exam must be completed within one hour. The practical exam is limited to 30 minutes.
Certification is valid for a period of three (3) years from the date of issuance. Individuals must renew their certification within six (6) months of the printed expiration date. Recertification up to six (6) months after the expiration date is permitted, but the certification is not valid between the expiration date and the renewal date. NO INSTALLATIONS, REPAIRS, OR TESTS SHOULD BE DONE DURING THE EXPIRED PERIOD. Failure to recertify by six (6) months after the expiration date will result in the individual having to retake the initial course and exam.
Prerequisites:
Previous Backflow Prevention Services (BPS) Course attendees: Attendees must possess a Certificate of Attendance from a previous 40-hour tester certification course offered by BPS.
Previous Non-BPS certified attendees: As a courtesy to previously certified testers, BPS will consider offering recertification to non-BPS certified testers if the prospective attendee can demonstrate knowledge of the backflow industry and testing procedures. The prospective attendee must show proof of certification by providing a copy of a previously obtained certification or recertification certificate.
